Mazraat Al Toufah Mazraat Al Toufah is a village situated down the green pine hill of Ejbe'e. In 1849 it counted 165 males living in 38 houses. In 1988, it counted 1390 registered persons and 1661 registered in 1998. More then half of the registered are now living abroad as emigrants. 80 of them had cut their relations with their motherland although their names are still in the records. List of these emigrants and their official record numbers in the table below. Education: The first school was inaugurated by the priest Youssef Gerges (died 1861) then his son the priest Semaan Gerges succeeded him. Among the priests who teached in Mazraat Al-Toufah were: Gerges Chidiac Shbat, Elias Karam, Francis Karam, Yaacoub Shbat, Boulos Shbat…In 1920, the government took on the school expenses till the year 1938, its closing date. The teachers of that era were: Doumit Shbat (1920-1925), Antoine Rashid Shbat (1925-1937). In 1944, the government opened a public school that closed down in 1961to be reopened in 1971 and is still active today. During the period between 1961 and 1971, the Archdiocese sponsored a school and appointed Fr. Youssef Al-Khoury as Principal. Administration: The first municipality was implemented in 1961, the municipal council was formed as follows: President: Michel Al-Khoury Members: Sarkis Francis, Hanna Karam, Hanna Assaf. In 1998 a new municipal council of 9 members was elected out of 12 candidates. President: Fouad Sarkis Ramia, Vice President: Elie Philippe, Members: Nasr Antonios, Samir Francis, George Mousa, Robert Shbat, Antoun Greige, Khalil Khalil, Doumit Tannous. The elected Mukhtar: Joseph Sarkis Ibrahim.

Basloukit Basloukit is a village situated in the vicinity of "Horsh Ehden", the nature reserve, on the western slope of mount Makmel. The village is mostly active in summer because the majority of the people spend winter in Mejdlaya. In 1849 it counted 135 males living in 29 houses. In 1988, it counted 765 registered persons and 809 registered in 1998. Nearly half the registered are now living abroad as emigrants. 97of these emigrants left away in the first half of the 20th century and had cut their relations with their motherland although their names are still in the records. List of these emigrants and their official record numbers in the table below. Administration: The first municipality was implemented in 1961, the municipal council was formed as follows: President: Joseph Habib Members: Bakhos Youssef, Kabalan Dahdah, Najib Abboud, Antoine Germanos. In 1998, and after more than 30 years delay, elections for a new municipal council took place. Of the 14 candidates, a new municipal council of 9 members was elected as follows: President: Michel Nakhoul Rashwan, Vice President: Joseph Amine Maroun, Members: Roger Bou Nehmeh, Bakhos Abboud, Raymond Abboud, Issa Khoury, Elie Abi Adam, Marcel Rahwan, Carole Saad. The elected Mukhtar: Mounir Youssef Saad. |
