Ser'el   -  Hawka  - Mazraat Al Nahr  -  Mazraat Al Fraydis

Ser'el

On the eastern slope of Jabal Aitou, Ser'el faces the holy valley of Qannoubine. In 1849 it counted 276 males living in 64 houses. In 1988 there were 1658 registered persons in the official records and 1745 persons were registered in 1998. More than 60% of the registered are now living abroad as emigrants which means more than 1200 persons, 524 of them had cut their relations with their motherland although their names are still in the records.

Education: A Public school opened in 1946 and it is still active today. 

Administration: The first municipality was implemented in 1962 and the first municipal council was formed as follows: President: Youssef Mjalli, Members: Michel Raad, Gibraiil Khouru, Bakhos Sassine, Youssef Elias.

In 1998 a new municipal council was elected and the 9 members are: Bakhos Sassine (President), Youssef Abou Elias (Vice President), Elham Saadeh, Boulos Yammouni, George Alti, Saadeh Moawad, Tony Nehmeh, Mas'ad Mas'ad, Antoine Semaan.

The elected Mukhtar is Antoine Mikhaiil Bou Daher.

Hawka

Hawka, as its name which means stairway or ladder would suggest, Hawka stands on the highest western point of the mountain separating the Qannubin Valley and the Kadisha Valley. In 1849 Hawka counted 26  Maronite males and the village consisted of 6 houses. In 1998 it counted 459 persons officially registered, half of them living outside Lebanon. .. early emigrant names are still in the records.

There is no municipal councils in Hawka, but a Mukhtar who is Marcel Dib Abi Shallita.

 

Mazraat Al Nahr -Mazraat Al Fraydis

Mazraat Al Nahr (358 registered persons in 1998) and Fraydiss (298 registered persons in 1998) are small villages on the south eastern slope of Jebel (mount) Aitou, facing the holy valley of Qannoubine.

Education: The monks of Deir Mar Antonios Qozhaya founded a school in 1920 near the village church. Some of the early teachers were: Fr. Naamtallah Sereeli, Youssef El-Barsh from Tourza, Deeb Ghaleb and Joseph Awwad from Hasroun. In 1965 a Public school replaced the old school and closed down in 1996. In Fradiss, a Public school opened in 1981 and is still active today.

There are no municipal councils in these two villages, but a Mukhtar for each.

The Mukhtar of Mazraat Fraydis is Samir Milad Lisha and the Mukhtar of Mazraat Al Nahr is George Mehsen Khalil.
