Kfarhawra
Kfarhawra is located in the Zawieh plain at 8 Km from Zgharta and at an altitude of 180 meters.
In the outskirts of the village you can find grottos carved out of the rocks as well as the ruins of ancient edifices. Moreover, while digging to build the foundations of their present church, the townspeople discovered a stone cross and some ruins of an old church.
In the past Kfarhawra was the place where the inhabitants of Bqoofa spent their winters. Historical documents lead us to believe that the Maronites and the Jacobites used to live in Kfarhawra together, at least during the 16th century. The Jacobites had a church dedicated to Our Lady and to Saints Sarkis and Behnam. However, the Maronites documents do not provide evidence of the presence of any Maronite church in Kfarhawra. The inhabitants of Kfarhawra, the Jacobites and the Maronites, were the owners of the lands in Bqoofa.
In the early 17th century all traces in historical documents of the Jacobite presence in Kfarhawra had disappeared. It is still not clear whether they left the town or embraced the Maronite rite.
Kfarhawra counted counted 60 males in 1555, 80 males in 1849 living in 18 houses, 250 males in 1906 and in 1932 there were 69 houses. In 1998 the official citizens records counted 746 registered persons, half of them are emigrants. 209registered persons are emigrants that went away and didn't report back, they represent 30% of the persons on the official records. There is no municipal council in Kfarhawra and the elected Mukhtar (1998) is Eva Youssef Hbaish.
The names of those emigrants, born after 1898, that did not report back since their departure and whose names are still on the official citizens records.
