Bousit

Bousit ( 398 regitered) The name Bousit which goes back to the Crusader times is probably a corruption of the words “Beau Site”, meaning the beautiful site. Bousit is a small remote village situated in the Tourbol mountain at an altitude of 590 m. The tombs carved out in the rocks and the various inscriptions found in different sites in Bousit prove that this village has been inhabited since ancient times.

In the Ottoman census of 1519, Bousit counted 12 adult Muslim males, it was not mentioned in the census of 1571. In 1849 it counted 11 males living in 4 houses, and in 1932, 18 houses were counted in Bousit. Bousit is now a small Orthodox community. The official citizens records show that 857 persons were registered in 1998. As all the villages in the district, half the registered are now emigrants and some of them (list below in green) had cut their relations with their motherland although their names are still in the records.

Hraykis

Hraykis, whose name means borders and limits, is situated on the western slope of the Tourbol mountain. It overlooks the northern Lebanese coast from south of  Tripoli to the Akkar plain. Old mills were found in Hraykiss, but no sign of houses or temples was found, a fact which proves that Hraykiss was merely an agricultural region.

At present the village counts more than 150 houses (619 registered persons in 1998) divided between two families only, the Maronite Teers family (came in 1780) and the Sunnite Deeb family. In the time of Mutasarrifiah, Hraykiss was always counted with Rachiine.

Education: The government inaugurated a Public school in 1950 and it is still active today.

The elected Mukhtar is Fares Jawad Ters.
