Kfaryashite - Beseb'el Kfaryashite Kfaryashite is an old village 6 Km east north of Zgharta. Some sarcophagi were found in it in addition to a stone statue of a lion that was transported to the Lebanese National Museum during the French mandate. Kfaryachite is one of the four villages along with Kfarhawra, Kfarzaina and Aarjes that was inhabited by the Al-Daher family who ruled over Al-Zawieh. Demography: In 1519 it counted 39 adult males, in 1571, 28 adult males, In 1849 there were 85 males in Kfaryashite living in 21 houses. In 1906 that number increased to 400 males. In the 1932 census it counted 63 houses. The official records counted 735 registered in 1988 and 857 registered persons in 1998. Nearly half the registered persons are now living abroad as emigrants. 79 of them had cut their relations with their motherland although their names are still in the records. (List below in green) |

Education: During the French Mendate, the Archdiocese opened a school in Kfaryashit that lasted till the year 1951. Of its teachers were: Saliba Hamad, Badwi Al-Ikrini, Youssef Saklawi from Kfarzaina, Youssef Al-Khoury from Asnoun, Wajih Wakim, Youssef Sleiman, George Maatouk, Antonios Tadros…The Archdiocese school was replaced by a public school in 1951, the first teacher was from Tripoli of the family Ahdab then came Youssef Loubos from Barhalioun. In 1964, the public school had its new building but it closed down in 1985 to be reopened in 1993.In 1983, the “Brothers of Christian Schools” inaugurated the “De La Salle” college in Kfaryashite which is one of the major schools in the district. Administration: Kfaryashite shares one municipality with Beseb'el. In May 1998, the first municipal elections took place with 12 candidates running up in two lists (one list 5 candidates and the second list 7 candidates). The elected municipal council of 9 members was finally formed of: Hawshab A. Wakim (President), Zeina M. Deeb (Vice President), Charbel R. Nasr, George Maroun, George Dagher, Elie Nasr, Jean Khoury, Sarkis Abou Rizk, Milad Habak. The elected Mukhtar: Boulos Wahib Shakoush.
