Location

The district (or Caza according to Lebanese official designation) of Zgharta – Zawieh is part of North-Lebanon governorate (Muhafazah) and lies to the east of Tripoli, the second largest city in Lebanon, than goes up to the highest peak in Lebanon mounts. It faces the Holy Valley of Qannoubine and it is the home of the largest Cedrus Libani forest in Lebanon.

The lowest point in the district is nearly 40 meters above sea level (2.5 km away from the Mediterranean Sea) while the highest reaches 2800 meters in altitude. There are 51 populated agglomerations in the District, the largest is the town of Zgharta (25000 inhabitants) and the smallest is Bchennine a village of 75 residents.

The surface area of the district is 18123 hectares with 10800 hectares of green land ( Olives, Oranges, apples… and forests) and 7323 hectares of built land and non cultivated bare land.

The annual rain precipitation average is nearly 750 mm with an average of 255 sunny days per year. December, January and February are the coldest (7 – 14 degrees C average) and wettest months of the year ( 130 to 160 mm average/month), June, July and August are the hottest ( 26 to 30 degrees C).

In the lower part of the Caza (45 to 350 meters altitude): Zgharta, Rachiine, Aalma, Ardeh, Miriata, Kadrieh, Hilan, Aachach, Haret Al Fawar, Kfardlakous, Mejdlaya, Kfarhata, Harf Ardeh, Asnoun,  Karabach, Beit Obeid, Beit Awkar, Kfarzaina, Iaal, Kfiryachite, Kfarhawra, Kfarchakhna, Daraya, Bchennine, Aarjes, Raskifa, Mazraat Hraikis, Bnachii, Bousit, Kifraya, Sakhra, Bisebiil, Khaldieh, Aardat.

In between 350 m and 1000m:  Siriil, Mazraat Al Toufah, Karmsaddeh, Aitou, Toula,    Bhairet Toula, Aarbet Qozhaia, Harf Miziara, Hmeiss, Kfarfou, Aslout, Fraydiss, Mazraat Al Nahr,

Above 1000 meters altitude: Ehden, Hawka, Ijbii, Aintourine, Basloukit
