The study deals with the elections in the Second North Constituency, it retraces the statistical history of elections back from 1960 till the year 2000. The summary of the book comes under a statistical aspect. The parts that are reviewed here are the parts related to the Caza of Zgharta Zawieh and focusing mostly on the candidates of the Caza.Chapter three: The Zawieh Since 1953, the whole candidates for the seats of Caza Zgharta Zawieh were from the town of Zgharta. The political role of the citizens of Zawieh is very simply defined: to vote for candidates from the town of Zgharta. Political activities are denied to the Zawieh, the only rule that prevails is the "rule of the five families". There are 49 town and village in Zgharta counting 44207 listed voters. For the sake of an objective study we divided the Zawieh into 4 geographical areas. 1- the towns and villages on the northern end of Zawieh 2- the muslim town and villages 3- the villages of the plain 4- the villages of the mountain side The repartition of the listed voters (those among 21 years old) among these areas is defined in the graph below.
Theoretically the northern end villages represent 24.16% of the registered in Zawieh but due to the high percentage of voting in this area, they effectively count 35.85% of the votes. 1 – Towns & villages of the northern end of Zawieh. This area of study includes the followings: Kfardlakos, Rashiine, Aashashe, Ardeh, Harf Ardeh, Aalma, Beit Awkar, Beit Obeid, Bousit, Kefraya and Hraykis. Rashiine is the largest and Beit Obeid the smallest. The evolution of the registered voters in this area and in the last four decades is shown in the table below.
The number of registered (above 21 years old) has increased in the four decades, by 2.77 times, which is more than the increase of the registered in the town of Zgharta (2 times). The voting results for the Zgharta Zawieh candidates in that study area were as follows:
The two candidates (from Zgharta) that registered negative scores, in comparison with the elections of 1966, were Nayla Moawad with 0.49% down and Robert Boulos whose score was 16.13% lower of that of 1966. Rashiine It is the town with the highest rate of voting in the whole district. In the last elections of 2000, of the 2778 registered 1683 voted and the partipation rate was 60.58%.
Stephane Douaihy was the one who got the highest increase in his score by 21.90% compared to that of 1996. Kfardlakos Of the 1209 registered voters, 500 did participate (41.4%). This participation rate is the lowest in that area of study. Most of the candidates had scores higher then those of 1996.
