A Direct Study in the Legislative Elections – 2000 –The North Second ConstituencyBy : Paul B.M. DuwayhiHere are summaries of the chapters of the book published in September 2001. The study deals with the elections in the Second North Constituency, it retraces the statistical history of elections back from 1960 till the year 2000. The summary of the book comes under a statistical aspect. The parts that are reviewed here are the parts related to the Caza of Zgharta Zawieh and focusing mostly on the candidates of the Caza.Chapter Two: The Town of ZghartaZgharta was divided into 5 sectors (Hay) in 1928. Every voter should report to the poll station of the sector he is initially registered in. The number of voters evoluted according to the table below.
The sector Maaser is the largest of the 5 sectors and it represents 28.71% of the registered (those older then 21 years) in Zgharta. The graph below shows the repartition of the registered upon the 5 sectors in Zgharta. Sector 1: Saydeh Sharki The oldest and the smallest in surface of the 5 sectors of Zgharta, Saydeh Sharki has not witnessed new "record comers". All those who are registered in this sector are originary of Zgharta since long time ago. In this sector the number of potential voters (those who are above 21 years old) was 3002 in 1996 and became 3099 in the year 2000. Less then 50% of the registered has voted and the results of the last two legislative elections are shown in the table below.
Although Sleiman Frangieh got the highest result, his score was less (-3.06% of the votes) then that of 1996. Robert Boulos suffered more loss (-5.44%). 2 – Sector Sahdeh Gharbi. Many citizens records were added to this sector, some moved their records from Dennieh to this sector, but it remains the smallest in the number of registered voters (those who are above 21 years old). The number of registered voters was 2636 in 1996 and became 2723 in the year 2000. Less then 50% of the registered has voted and the results of the last two legislative elections are shown in the table below.
We notice that the only negative score was that of Robert Boulos who lost 6.37% of the votes, compared to his score of 1996. 3 – Sector Slayeb Shimali The number of registered voters was 3160 in 1996 and became 3267 in the year 2000, an increase of 3.39%. 52.65% of the registered has voted and the results of the last two legislative elections are shown in the table below.
