The elections in Zgharta - Zawieh 1934 - 2000 Session 1934 - 1937 According to a decree on the second of January 1934, the members of the parliament will be elected on the basis of one representative to each 50000 registered persons in addition to 7 appointed members. The candidates shall be elected as part of an electoral list. There were 10 candidates in the Caza of Zgharta-Zawie running for one seat: Farid Antoun, Youssef Salim Karam, Jawad Semaan Boulos, Hamid Kabalan Frangie, Kabalan Frangie, Emile Duwayhi, Dr. Shaker Frangie, Boutros Bechara Karam, Philippe Torbey, Anis Mawad. 9 of the candidates withdrew and in North Lebanon, like everywhere in the country there were only lists of candidates backed by the government.
The candidates had nearly the same number of votes out of 24532 voters. There were no opposite list. Jawad Boulos was one of the appointed members of parliament. Session 1937 – 1939 One of the strangest elections in the country (or in any country). The number of the members of Parliament to be elected was 63 members according to the new Law and the government made a deal with the opposition about who's gone to be elected and it was settled: 37 seats for the government and 26 for the opposition. North Lebanon as a whole was one electoral constituency. Like the previous elections, those who were elected were on the settlement list. There were 34821 voters in North Lebanon, and those who were elected got 99.99% of the voters.
Session 1943 – 1947 The first round of the elections took place on August 21 and the second on august 28. It was the first after the independence of Lebanon. The pro-french were the major losers except in Mount Lebanon.
Also elected on that list were Mohammad Abdel Razzak, Sleiman Al-Ali, Yaacoub Al-Sarraf and Mohammad Al- Moustafa. The opposite list which was said a pro-french one included the following candidates: Jawad Boulos 13083 votes, Nassouh al-Fadel 13406 votes, Philippe Boulos 13512 votes, Ishak Attieh 13406, Nadra Issa el-Khoury 13061, Khaled Abdel Kader 13197, Omar Mokaddem 12919, Nadim Jisr 12901, Charles Khoury 12665, Toufic Awwad 12499, Mouin Al-Kaddour 12233 and Antoine Shahine 11451. Few months later, Wahib Jaajaa was assassinated and Youssef Karam was elected in a partial electial for the vacant seat. Session 1947 – 1951 The electoral law was the same as for the previous election. The president then Beshara El-Khoury noted in his memories "Awrak Loubnaniah" that he managed to back lists of candidates that he considered "consensus" lists.
The opposite list that lost by a large margin of votes was formed by the following candidates: Moustafa Mokaddem, Khaled Abdel Kader, Ahmad Al-Youssef, Mohammad Al-Moustafa, Anis Mawad, Fouad Douaihy, Nadim Jisr, Saiid Tawk, Jean Khoury, Nkoula Shawi and Jamil Kousa. Session 1951 – 1953 The Cazas of Zgharta, Koura, Besharri and Batroun formed one electoral constituency. For the first time, a clause in the elections law stated that in order to be elected a candidate has to obtain at least 40% of the voters.
The names highlighted in yellow were in one list, those highlighted in blue were in a second list and the others formed the third list. Hamid Frangie was the only candidate that was elected from the list he formed and Fouad Douaihy was the only loser in the winner list. The outcome of that election session made an end to the political life of Fouad Douaihy and Jawad Boulos. Session 1953 – 1957 The Caza of Zgharta was one electoral constituency represented by one deputy member. There were two candidates.
Session 1957 – 1960 Two deputy members were given to the Caza in the the new electoral law. Four candidates were running for the elections
Session 1960 – 1964 The Caza elected three deputy members. There were four main candidates: the elected three formed one list .
