The ancient churches of Zgharta Our Lady of Zgharta When a number of villagers from Ehden moved to Zgharta in the 16th century, they honored the Virgin Mary by building her one of the most beautiful churches in Lebanon and calling it "Our Lady of Zgharta". In that time the church was a small one, enlarged the first time in 1607 then in 1651 and took the final shape it has today in 1761.
It is a huge rectangular edifice with two low doors characterized by their embossed architecture that was especially designed to protect the church from invaders. It has huge thick walls and no windows.
Its nave is made of three emporiums seperated by support pillars. The apse of the main altar is flat and surrounded by four concave arches. From the inside the church is surrounded by an embossed molding.
